Autonomous Agents and Social Norms
نویسنده
چکیده
In this paper we present concepts and their relations that are necessary for mod-eling autonomous agents in an environment that is governed by some (social) norms. We divide the norms over three levels: the private level the contract level and the convention level. We show how deontic logic can be used to model the concepts and how the theory of speech acts can be used to model the generation of (some of) the norms. Finally we give some idea about an agent architecture incorporating the social norms based on a BDI framework.

A Peer-to-Peer Normative System to Achieve Social Order
Social order in distributed descentralised systems is claimed to be obtained by using social norms and social control. This paper presents a normative P2P architecture to obtain social order in multiagent systems. We propose the use of two types of norms that coexist: rules and conventions. Rules describe the global normative constraints on autonomous agents, whilst conventions are local norms....
متن کاملA categorization of simulation works on norms
In multi-agent systems, software agents are modelled to possess characteristics and behaviour borrowed from human societies. Norms are expectations of behaviours of the agents in a society. Norms can be established in a society in different ways. In human societies, there are several types of norms such as moral norms, social norms and legal norms (laws). In artificial agent societies, the desi...
متن کاملSelf-organization in decentralized agent societies through social norms
Social norms help people self-organizing in many situations where having an authority representative is not feasible. On the contrary to institutional rules, the responsibility to enforce social norms is not the task of a central authority but a task of each member of the society. “The social norms I am talking about are not the formal, prescriptive or proscriptive rules designed, imposed, and ...
متن کاملModeling Norms in Electronic Institutions
Two approaches have been advocated for the design and modeling of (social) norms in multi agent systems: in the coordination strategy, multi agent systems are defined as a set of entities regulated by mechanisms of social order and created by more or less autonomous actors to achieve common goals; in the cooperation strategy, agents model specific roles in the society and interact with each oth...
متن کاملNormative Echoes: Use and Manipulation of Player Generated Content by Communities of NPCs
Normative Echoes is an interactive installation that explores ways to combine player-created content with procedural content. Animated autonomous agents inhabit virtual islands on stationary computers; a tablet PC is used as a virtual raft to transfer agents between the islands. The agents on each island communicate with one another and form scenario-based computational representations of their...
